Don't forget that the paintings you are seeing, the clothes walking down the runway, the album your are listening to, the book you are reading, is the end result. It didn't just appear one day, it's the result of a lot of time and work. Let me show you the process for my newest painting, STRENGTH, which will be part of the Arcana show at the Corvide Collective in Nashville opening Saturday, June 4.
I started working on Limbo of the Lost, although it wasn’t called that at first, in October of 2015. I wasn’t sure what I wanted to paint yet so I went to the library for inspiration. I checked out three books on three different topics that interested me.
For my art trading group (illustratedatcs.com) we were asked to make an ornament and three ATC paintings in the theme of Alice in Wonderland. I can’t remember the last time I saw that movie but I remember loving it as a kid.
I chose to make my ornament out of clay. One of my favorite characters in the movie is the caterpillar. I made him sitting on a mushroom smoking his hookah. I used a paperclip for the hookah hose and then painted it with acrylic paint.
Then I had to make three ATCs to go with my ornament. ATC stands for artist trading card. They are little pieces of art 2 ½ x 3 ½ inches in size, the size of a standard card deck.
Because this was an Alice in Wonderland themed trade I was also asked to include some tea. I love tea. My favorite place to get tea in (East) Nashville is a locally owned place called High Garden. This is not a sponsored post and am in no way affiliated with High Garden. I just wanted to share one of my favorite stores.
I live about 45 minutes away from High Garden but I make the drive about once a month to stock up on my favorite teas. My favorites are Firefox, which gives me tons of energy without jitters, and Immortal Monk, which makes me feel great. They also sell bundles of sage and copal which make my home smell amazing. If you're not local they have an online store as well.
I love drinking tea when I'm making art. Do you have a favorite tea or local tea shop?
I'm pretty sure I should have been a mermaid. I'm never more sure than at the end of winter. When the air has been so cold and dry. I'm basically dust at this point. Sometimes I have to hang out in the bathtub, like the old guy in the movie 'Big Fish', to feel better.

Sides are 1/2 inch deep and are painted black.
Wired and ready to hang.
In the art trading group I'm in, I did a X-Files themed postcard trade with another artist. I made the postcard above and I can't wait to see the one she made for me. Hopefully it's in my mailbox when I get home from work.
The season finale of The X-Files is tonight. Who here is watching it? I definitely am.
I've been a big fan of The X-Files since the first episode. I've seen every single one. Back when I had a killer metabolism, I would settle in with graham crackers topped with cream cheese frosting and watch Mulder and Scully prove weird things exist.
I can't wait to see what happens tonight. I've enjoyed the season so far. I mean they've had aliens, monsters, and some funny parts which was fun. Also, Mulder (David Duchovny) is super hot. And dang Scully (Gillian Anderson)! What kind of moisturizing is she using? She is flawless.
Hopefully tonight isn't it for The X-Files. I would love to see more.
I made this custom painting for someone as a gift. It is the size of a postcard. This was a fun one to make.
Today I'm working on a project for this art group I am in. The theme is Beautiful Bone Women. So I made three little paintings. So far I think my favorite is the one on the far right. I am thinking I might need to add something to the backgrounds.
I'm Jackie, an artist, illustrator, and friend to ghosts, monsters, and aliens. This blog is full of DIY projects, stories, and things I think are cool. Stay weird.
